Patchett’s writing focuses on unexpected life situations, such as a scientist suddenly sent to the Amazon, a fraught family relationship, a group of people unexpectedly taken hostage, and the nontraditional bonds that people form in these unexpected situations. Patchett has received numerous awards and fellowships, including England’s Orange Prize, the PEN/Faulkner Award, a Guggenheim fellowship, and more her books have been both New York Times Notable Books and New York Times best sellers, and have been translated into more than 30 languages. Her latest novel is The Dutch House, which was released this September. ANN PATCHETT IS an American writer and independent bookseller who has authored eight novels, three books of nonfiction, co-authored a children’s book, and edited two books of essays.
